Kotoko have thrown their weight behind midfielder Justice Blay after the player missed a penalty in Ghana’s defeat to Senegal in the finals of the WAFU Cup of Nations.
The midfielder after an impressive performance in the game stunned everyone during the penalty shootouts when he shoot feebly at the Senegalese goalkeeper to see the host win the trophy.
Blay needed to score his kick to keep Ghana in the shootouts after earlier misses from Augustine Okrah and Fatawu Mohammed, but the former Sekondi Hasaacas man went in for a Jorginho like penalty, eventually missing his kick.
Many however expressed shock at the penalty of the 23-year-old who had scored in a similar way against Burkina Faso in the quarterfinal match.
Despite the constant lamentation over the midfielder’s kick, Kotoko have come out to support their own insisting he “fought gallantly in the game”.
You fought gallantly, throughout the tournament, and only faltered at the spot where many of your kind dread…That’s certainly not something to be ashamed of…We await your gallant return back home #AKSC pic.twitter.com/7pNR98yFtk
