The singer left prankster Kevin Freshwater very impressed after he asked her to finish the lyrics to Shallow and she perfectly sang the lines

When asked how long she had been working as a singer, she said: ’15 years. I’ve been singing longer than that.

‘I’ve had so many jobs I’ve been a chauffeur a barmaid. I used to do that during the week and sing of a weekend.’

Charlotte was on her way to meet a friend for a coffee before the video was filmed, and shortly after boarded a flight to New York, and so she had no idea of the reaction until her friends and family started to contact her.

She said: ‘It’s amazing it’s unbelievable, I had no idea. I was on the way to New York with my friends for a break.

‘It was only when I got to the other end it was like, “Have you seen what’s going on?” it was bizarre, I was blown away by it. You couldn’t write it.’

During her appearance on the popular US chat show, Ellen listed facts about Charlotte’s video, including the fact it was seen by six million people and helped Shallow re-enter the Top 40 on Itunes.

Speaking of her Ellen appearance, she went on: ‘I didn’t think it was real. I didn’t know what to believe. I didn’t know what was going on.

‘The whole thing has felt surreal from start to finish. It’s unbelievable, it’s like a roller coaster really. To actually be on telly and filmed, on air, it’s massive, it’s wonderful but scary as well.’

Before she left the interview, Lorraine challenged her to sing the song once again, live on the show with no rehearsal – and once again Charlotte stunned the host with her flawless vocals.

In the video shared last week, Charlotte sang the words: ‘I’m off the deep end, watch as I dive in, I’ll never meet the ground. Crash through the surface, where they can’t hurt us, we’re far from the shallow now.’

After her impressive vocals, gobsmacked Kevin, who has 1.5million Facebook followers, says: ‘Wow. You’re brilliant. Are you a singer? Oh my God you’re amazing.’

Ms Awbery then smiled and admitted she was a wedding singer before making her way to the train with a coffee in her hand.

And since the video was shared on Facebook – Charlotte has bolstered her Instagram followers from 5,000 to 466,000.

She said: ‘It’s been my dream since I was a little girl. I write all my own stuff hopefully fingers crossed I can start showing people my own music.

‘I’m actually going to be releasing my own single a cover of Shallow, I’m over the moon I really am.’
