Andrew Tate will remain remanded in custody for another 29 days in prison for another 29 days until an investigation into claims he kept six women under house arrest ‘like prisoners’ is complete, a Romanian court has decided.

Last night Tate, along with his brother Tristan, 34, and two Romanian women, were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking, rape and forming an organised crime group.

The social media influencer was arrested followed allegations made that he forced the women he kept in his house to create online pornographic videos for profit.

On Friday evening a judge at Bucharest Court House rejected Tate’s lawyer’s appeal to have him released from jail while investigations continued.

The judge in Bucharest made his decision to detain Tate along with his brother and their personal assistants Georgiana Naghel and Luana Radu, a former policewoman.

Speaking outside the courthouse, Tate’s representative Avocat Vidineac Eugen Constatin’s said they would be appeal the decision to keep the influencer behind bars for the next few weeks.

Mr Constatin told reporters: ‘The court has issued an arrest warrant for 30 days. We’ve appealed it, the court will decide after the appeal what the final solution is.

‘We are not at a stage where guilt or innocence is proven, for now we only discuss preventive measures.’

Tate and his companions will be held at the main detention centre in Bucharest. They have, however, been granted the right to be appeal the decision and this is likely to be heard next week.

The group have not been formally charged yet, with police in Bucharest insisting that their investigation is continuing and that all four remain suspects.

Officials close to the case said Tate asked his employees to shadow his victims’ every move, forcing them to take part in online pornographic videos.

‘The abuse was physical and emotional. They were not allowed to leave the house without security and they were watched day and night,’ a Romanian judicial source told the Mail.

The prolific social media personality, 36, was detained at a £600,000 bolthole in Pipera, Voluntari, on the outskirts of Bucharest, on Thursday.

The alleged criminal ring was arrested a day after Tate was roundly mocked online for a Twitter spat with Greta Thunberg.

The four suspects were initially held on suspicion of rape, human trafficking, and organized crime offences for 24 hours following raids on his villa and other properties.

The ‘webcam king’ who claimed to be a ‘trillionaire’ was in fact living in a property he did not own at the end of a poorly-laid road.

The sprawling home, close to an airport runway, belongs to Talisman Enterprises SRL, which owned by a businesswoman Naghel Manuela.

The Tate brothers were the majority shareholders in Talisman Enterprises SRL until August this year when they sold it to Ms Manuela for an undisclosed sum.

It is unclear whether the brothers rent the compound or are permitted to live there following the sale of the firm.

Despite claiming to be a ‘trillionaire’ the company accounts for last year show a modest turnover of £344,000 with assets valued at £468,000 and debts of £732,000.

Sources close to the police investigation said that officers moved in on Tate’s compound yesterday because it was the first time that they knew that Andrew and his brother Tristan were both in Romania at the same time.

The authorities wanted to be certain that they arrested the brothers together, said the source.

Organised crime body DIICOT assigned their toughest prosecutor Rareș Petru Stan to the case.

Stan has previously taken down mafia bosses and drug dealers in Romania and now requires armed protection after receiving death threats from criminal gangs.

Since the beginning of 2021, the prosecution has been investigating the suspects and had already searched Tate’s villa in April.

According to a DIICOT statement issued Thursday, the influencer, his brother and two Romanians are suspected of ‘organised crimes’, ‘rape’ and ‘human trafficking’ in several countries.

So far six potential victims have been identified.

The suspects recruited and exploited women by coercing them into ‘forced labour… and pornographic acts with a view to producing and disseminating such material’ online to ‘obtain substantial financial benefits’.

Andrew and Tristan Tate are both dual-citizens of the US and UK. The brothers were born to an American father and British mother, and grew up partially in both countries.

Police said the two British suspects lured female victims using the ‘loverboy method,’ falsely professing their love and intention to marry them.

The victims were then transported to buildings in Ilfov county on the outskirts of Bucharest, where they were ‘sexually exploited’ and forced to perform in pornographic videos for dissemination on social media, the police statement said.

The content was then posted on the adult-only content platform Only Fans and the video-sharing site TikTok, with the brothers allegedly pocketing all the proceeds.

Investigators also claim one of the suspects raped a victim on two separate occasions in March 2022.

‘We have information based on what they said on social media, that one of the girls brought in up to €50,000 a month,’ said a source close to the investigation told the Mail. ‘They were given no money from what they earned.’

The women include one American, one Moldovan and four Romanian nationals. ‘The abuse was physical and emotional,’ claims the source. ‘They were not allowed to leave the house without security and they were watched day and night.’

The insider added: ‘They were essentially kept under house arrest 24/7 like prisoners.’

Officials told the Mail that undercover Romanian police have been following the Tates for months.

According to phone records obtained by the police, the brothers referred to their victims as ‘sugar heart’ and ‘baby’ when they were trying to recruit them but quickly soured on them when they were trapped in their compound.

Ms Radu, the former policewoman, was in charge of the girls’ schedule and advertising their content on major pornographic websites, said official sources.

Cops say the suspects used ‘physical violence and mental coercion’ to force the women to comply with their demands, including ‘intimidation, constant surveillance, control and invoking alleged debts.’

The raid is a blow to Tate’s previous insistence that he moved to the Eastern European country five years ago to enjoy greater freedom to behave as he pleased and not be hounded by the authorities.

A spokesman for Tate said: ‘Andrew and Tristan Tate have the utmost respect for the Romanian authorities and will always assist and help in any way they can.’

Five locations were raided across Romania as part of the investigation, including their bolthole.

Interior shots posted on his and his brother’s Instagram pages show plush leather sofas, a hi-tech security room with multiple live CCTV feeds and glass display cases for his kickboxing belts.

One James Bond-themed glass wardrobe shows off an array of guns and black jackets, and the influencer also keeps a team of armed guards on site and sleeps with a machete, he said previously in interviews.

A wood-panelled room with leather armchairs and desk chairs appears to be the room he recorded his widely mocked riposte to Greta where he was seen smoking a cigar and flexing his pecs.

He also owns a large chessboard as a tribute to his father Emory Tate, an international Master who was among the top 2,000 active players in the world.

A video chat studio is housed 500 yards from the main property, where several women were found during a police raid in April.

From the site, he also runs his ‘Hustler’s Academy’ where 127,000 mostly men and boys pay him £39 a month for tips on getting rich and dealing with life is another income stream.

The adult webcam mogul had previously said he moved to Romania five years ago with Tristan, who lives on the top floor of the mansion, for less interference by police.

In a video he later deleted, he claimed that ‘40 per cent of the reason I moved to Romania’ was because rape laws are more lenient there. ‘I’m not a f****** rapist, but I like the idea of just being able to do what I want,’ he said.

He added in a separate interview explaining why he was attracted to Romania: ‘I like living in a society where my money, influence, and power means I’m not below or beholden to any of these bulls*** laws.’

This morning, the former Big Brother contestant’s account tweeted: ‘The Matrix sent their agents.’

He made a similar comment as he was being led away in handcuffs by armed officers as he said to the camera: ‘The Matrix has attacked me.’

Tate has previously said he believes we live in a matrix where people are programmed by computers to work until they die, referencing the blockbuster film about a simulated reality.

The concept of the films has been co-opted by a number of far-right conspiracy theorists and men’s rights groups in recent years.

The US State Department and FBI did not immediately respond to requests for comment last night.

Chicago-born Tate, whose full name is Emory Andrew Tate III, has been branded ‘the king of toxic masculinity’ for his online diatribes against women – which have gained him notoriety and millions of followers.

Tate, a former pro kickboxer, first came to prominence when he appeared on the reality show Big Brother in 2016, but was ejected from the show after a video surfaced online which appeared to show him striking a woman with a belt – a clip he claimed had been edited.

Tate’s home in the Eastern European nation was also raided on April 11 this year as part of a human trafficking investigation.

Following the April raid, which was reportedly prompted by a complaint from a US citizen to the American Embassy in Bucharest, the Tate brothers were detained for several hours for questioning but ultimately released as the investigation continued.

Andrew Tate has previously boasted to his followers that ’40 percent’ of the reason he moved to Romania was because the police were less likely to pursue any sexual assault allegations against him.

Together with his brother Tristan, he allegedly set up a webcam business in Romania in which young models told sob stories to unsuspecting male viewers.

Despite previously saying that the site was ‘a total scam’, Tate claims to have made millions from it.

On Wednesday, Tate found himself in hot water after getting into a Twitter spat with eco-activist Greta Thunberg.

He called her out – and shared a photo of himself filling up his Bugatti supercar, asking her to send him her email address so he could detail the ‘enormous emissions’ his gas-guzzling performance cars spewed out.

Tate tweeted on Tuesday: ‘Hello Greta Thunberg. I have 33 cars. My Bugatti has a w16 8.0L quad-turbo. My TWO Ferrari 812 competizione have 6.5L v12s. This is just the start. Please provide your email address so I can send a complete list of my car collection and its enormous emissions.’

Miss Thunberg issued a brutal comeback in a tweet to her 4.9million followers , saying: ‘Yes, please do enlighten me. Email me at smalld***[email protected]’

Tate first came to prominence when he appeared on Big Brother in 2016, but was removed from the program after a video surfaced online which appeared to show him attacking a woman with a belt – a clip he claimed had been edited.

Since then, he has gained further notoriety for a string of comments about women, including suggesting that they ‘bear some responsibility’ if they are assaulted – an incident which led to him being banned from Twitter.

Tate had been banned from Twitter since 2017 until Elon Musk allowed him back on the platform last month.
