A 10-year-old boy in Massachusetts is being hailed as a hero after helping to save his mother’s life.Nate Galante, of Dedham, noticed that his mom, Sarah, was having trouble breathing and immediately texted his dad to call for help.”She was sick and she said not to call my dad, but I did and then he called 911 and she got to the hospital,” Nate Galante said.According to a GoFundMe page set up for the family, the responding medics told the family that Sarah Galante was just minutes from death.”She had already collapsed to the floor and she was losing all her oxygen,” said Michael Galante, Nate’s father and Sarah’s husband. “It was all minutes. If he had not texted me, she would have just lost that oxygen and not been able to recover. So he’s a true hero.”Doctors discovered that Sarah Galante, who has multiple sclerosis, was suffering from blood clots and had to undergo open-heart surgery. She wound up in a medically-induced coma, but she was able to recover and is currently in a rehabilitation center.On Wednesday, Nate Galante was honored for his actions by Dedham first responders, who paraded by his school in police cruisers and fire engines.”It was very cool,” he said.The fourth-grader was also applauded by his classmates at Riverdale Elementary School and received an official community hero certificate.”He said: ‘Can we not say I’m a community hero? Can we just say that I made a really good choice and a brave choice?'” said Riverdale Principal Ed Paris. “He did not expect this. He’s not someone that would feel like he deserves something like this.
