A married father-of-two stalked and raped a woman ‘to teach her lesson’ after she called him out for setting up a fake Facebook profile to cheat on his wife.
Self-confessed sex addict Adam Kelly, 35, pretended to be someone else online in the hope of finding a mistress.
But he became enraged when he was called out by a woman after she received a pornographic picture of him and realised who the sender was.
In revenge, Kelly lay in wait for her as she finished work then ambushed her near an alleyway in Burnley, Lancs. He dragged her to the floor by her hair before forcing himself on her telling: ‘If you say anything I will rape you again.’
The woman, who was known to Kelly, initially kept quiet about her ordeal for five years but eventually confided in her family and called the police.
Inquiries revealed in the moments before the rape, Kelly had been lurking in the shadows with his trousers undone and wearing a condom ready to strike.

At Burnley Crown Court, Kelly was jailed for 16 years after he was convicted of rape
At Burnley Crown Court, he was jailed for 16 years after he was convicted of rape by a jury following a trial. He admitted having a ‘sex problem’ but denied wrongdoing. He had no previous offences on his record.
Balding overweight Kelly had contacted his victim ‘out of the blue’ in 2015 using an account with a fake profile image. He sent the woman photographs of his genitals but the victim worked out the sender was Kelly and spurned his advances.
Kelly then began to loiter outside her place of work to monitor her movements and having established the route she would walk home, he then lurked in the alleyway waiting for her to approach before attacking her from behind.
He said he would rape the woman again if she told anybody about what had happened. In a statement the woman said: ‘I felt like I lost all control over my life after the attack.
‘I tried to get on with it and thought I could pretend it never happened. However I had anxiety, depression, and panic attacks and it took me several years to come to terms with what had happened before I eventually confided in my family and the police.

‘Going to court to give evidence was the most awful thing I could ever imagine it to be. It made me feel like I was on trial. Being accused of making up the worst thing that ever happened to me was heart-breaking.’
‘It is very difficult to put into words how overwhelming, intense and heart-breaking this has been.
‘Even though he had been found guilty my life will never go back to normal. I am glad that I have found the strength to come to court as it will stop him from doing it to anyone else, but I am broken and will never recover.’
Sentencing Kelly, Judge Sara Dodd told him: ‘At the time of the offence your trousers were already undone, and you were already wearing a condom. You told her if she said anything about what had happened you’d do it again and again until she learnt her lesson.
‘There is no doubt that your crime has caused severe psychiatric harm.’
Kelly was also banned from contacting the victim under the terms of a restraining order and will have to sign the sex offenders register for life.
