The reigning Ghana premier league champions Accra Hearts of Oak have beaten Moroccan club Wydad Athletic Club by a goal to zero deficit in the first leg of the CAF Champion league competition this Sunday 17 October 2021 at the ACCRA Sports Stadium.


Hearts of Oak were hopeful of beating WAC convincingly to make the second return leg in Rabat an easier task but ended other ways. The match was a delight and a cracker to watch as the WAC boys gave the Phobians a tough time despite a miss out of some of their key players.

The only goal from ISAAC MENSAH, that ensured the Phobians sealed through with slim win advantage over WAC ahead of the second return fixture in Morocco.

The Phobians dominated the early minutes of the game with much concentration and eagerness to distract the visitors by breaking the virginity of the game.

Frederick Ansah Botchway was introduced in midfield to replace Caleb Amankwah who failed to pass a late fitness test while Kofi Kordzi started the game making a partnership with Ibrahim Salifu and Afriyie Barnieh also operating from the wings.

Hearts came closer with an opening goal in just seven minutes into the game as Kofi Kordzi was fed with sweet pass from Ibrahim Salifu but blasted too wide with the ball.

With all Hearts efforts mounting pressure on the visitors, WAC managed to come into the game with midfielder Muaid Elfer testing goalkeeper Richard Attah with long range shots.The rain bow club finally had the opening goal through attacker Isaac Mensah with a fine cross assist from Ibrahim Salifu.

Hearts in the second half pushed in search for a second goal pushing up more men upfront but all efforts went in vain.  WAC later had an equalizer but unfortunately the referee ruled off their goal as an offside one.

Hearts on next week will travel to Rabat for the second return leg game should they win or pull a stalemate will qualify for the group stage of the competition.
