A serving Metropolitan Police officer from the same unit as Sarah Everard’s killer Wayne Couzens has been charged with rape, the Crown Prosecution Service said last night.
David Carrick, 46, from Stevenage, Hertfordshire, will appear at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court later today.
PC Carrick, who was off duty at the time of the alleged attack, is a member of the Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, which guards some of the UK’s most secure buildings including 10 Downing Street.
It is the same squad that Sarah Everard’s murderer Couzens worked for.
The new charge comes after a week that saw the Couzens sentenced to life in prison for the abduction, rape and murder of Ms Everard.
The twisted officer abused his position to falsely arrest the 33-year-old for breaching coronavirus lockdown rules when she was walking home from a friend’s house in Clapham, South London, on March 3.
In recent days, Met Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick has faced a wave of calls for her to step down amid the multiple missed chances to identify officer Wayne Couzens as a sexual predator.
The police chief said last night that she was ‘deeply concerned’ at news of the rape charge.

The CPS last night said: ‘The CPS has today authorised Hertfordshire Constabulary to charge serving Metropolitan Police officer David Carrick, 46, with one count of rape following an alleged attack on a woman on the night of 4 September 2020.
‘The defendant’s first court appearance will take place via video link at 10am [on Monday] at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court.’
The Metropolitan Police said Pc Carrick was arrested on October 2 by Hertfordshire Constabulary. He was suspended the same day by the Met, the force added.
A referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Dame Cressida said: ‘I am deeply concerned to hear the news today that an officer from the Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command has been arrested and now charged with this serious offence. I fully recognise the public will be very concerned too.
‘Criminal proceedings must now take their course so I am unable to comment any further at this stage.’
Malcom McHaffie, the chief prosecutor for CPS Thames and Chiltern, added: ‘The CPS has authorised Hertfordshire constabulary to charge serving Metropolitan police officer David Carrick, 46, with one count of rape following an alleged attack on a woman on the night of 4 September 2020.
‘The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against the defendant are active and that he has a right to a fair trial.
‘It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.’
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: ‘PC David Carrick, 46, who is based within the Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, was charged by Hertfordshire Constabulary on October 3 with rape. The officer was off-duty in Hertfordshire at the time.
It comes after news emerged of how Couzens showed off a prostitute to his Met colleagues at a hotel party, calling her his ‘bit of brass’
‘He was arrested on 2 October by Hertfordshire Constabulary and suspended the same day by the Metropolitan Police. We await the outcome of criminal proceedings.’
It comes after news emerged of how Couzens showed off a prostitute to his Met colleagues at a hotel party, calling her his ‘bit of brass’.
The murderer, 48, invited the sex worker to his colleague’s tenth wedding anniversary party, despite being married.
The killer also once had a prostitute arrive at his station demanding money.
Couzens was out on patrol and was called back to the station by his sheepish colleagues and escorted her to a cashpoint.
A source told The Sun: ‘When he came back from the ATM he said she was Eastern European and that he couldn’t be messing around with her or the people looking after her.’
Meanwhile a witness at the hotel party said: ‘We knew Wayne was married and expected him to turn up with his wife. Instead jaws dropped when he showed up with this woman dressed really over the top.
‘He was quite open about her being an escort. He said “My wife can’t make it so I’ve brought this brass with me.”‘
The source said they saw Couzens in the toilets who was laughing about having to pay for sex, adding: ‘He gave me the creeps and I wasn’t the only one.’
The monster was known among his fellow officers to have arranged meet-ups with call girls in local pubs.
He was nicknamed ‘The Rapist’ by colleagues and was once reported for slapping a female officer’s bottom at Bromley station, but no action was taken.
There were also reports that he drove around Kent naked from the waist down in 2015.
And three days before kidnapping Ms Everard, he allegedly flashed a McDonald’s worker.
