It was a close call for one MBTA Red Line rider Sunday night when a large piece of metal fell to the ground from a set of stairs. MBTA rider Tim Shannon told WCVB the piece of rusted metal narrowly missed him when he was at the Savin Hill stop in the city’s Dorchester neighborhood. The MBTA acknowledged Monday some minor repairs were needed after the panel fell, adding no one was injured and no Red Line delays were associated with the incident. Other panels were inspected Monday morning, and engineers inspected the concrete steps and determined they were structurally sound and safe for use, the MBTA said. The cause is under investigation.
