Officials are warning the public not to feed coyotes after a teenager was bitten by a coyote Monday at a Chatham beach.Police said the teen and a friend were eating on a blanket at 8 p.m. near the second lot of Harding’s Beach. A coyote approached and bit the teen on the ankle. The teen and friend ran away, and the coyote then picked up some food and went into the dunes, police said. The town will be placing coyote-specific advisory signage in the areas of Harding’s Beach.Police are also investigating reports of people in the area seen feeding the coyotes.The public is reminded not to feed coyotes and to keep their distance from the animals. Earlier this summer, a child was bitten by a coyote at North Herring Cove Beach within Cape Cod National Seashore. Officials said rangers have responded to incidents of coyotes acting assertively toward people in attempts to obtain food.
