Armed police descended on a street after a woman was savaged by her own bulldogs today.

An address in St Helens, Merseyside, was the centre of a large emergency response scene, including two police cars, police dogs, an ambulance and a fire engine.

Merseyside Police said a woman was seriously injured and rushed to hospital after her four dogs attacked her inside her home.

Assam Close, by Reginald Road in the south of the town, was flooded with police shortly after 10am.

People living nearby said emergency crews were at the scene for over an hour before the presence started to dwindle.

At the scene, police could be seen loading a small dog into the back of an unmarked black van before driving away.

A resident close to the property said: ‘You should have seen it before, the whole street was filled with police, ambulance and everything, it was mad.’

Another person living on the same estate as Assam Close said that there has been previously been trouble on the estate and that residents ‘have to suffer’ through it.

One resident of the street said: ‘It’s normally a nice estate so it’s obviously really surprising when something like this goes on.’
